Membership
Our Membership is the bedrock on and by which we stand. Without a vibrant and dynamic membership there would be no Hibiscus Caribbean Elderly Association. Membership offer a range of opportunities including the opportunity to volunteer across all areas of the service and and to contribute to policy development. The prospect of widening one's social network and the opportunity to socialise in an environment that is reflective of one's culture cannot be overstated and is a major attraction for new members.
Hibiscus weekly social activities Dominoes, Line Dancing, Quadrille, Karaoke and hall hire have all been suspended since the Pandemic. However, Hibiscus Members and Guest Monthly Social Gathering, has migrate online (BRUK OUT) and is delivered on Saturday evening via Zoom. This development has enabled a significant increase in attendance and more particularly has exposed the Charity to an international audience and extended our network of artists willing to entertain the membership free of charge. Chair and Zumba class for seniors are also now delivered online. Hibiscus Zoom platform is also available to members to utilise. The Lucel Tate Lecture now a permanent feature on the events calendar continues to address issues confronting our community and enables our views on such issues to be represented to the wider community. This years lecture entitled "YES or No to Vaccination - the Impact of Covid 19 on the UK Black population" will be delivered by by Dr Winston Morgan. This is a zoom event click here for more information and Registration. Unfortunately this year our away days and planned jaunt to the Caribbean has had to be cancelled. Nonetheless there is hope that 2021-2022 will see the return of all services. An embryonic reward programme that allows Members to receive goods and services at significant discount is in development and members are being sought to take this forward.Looking forward to welcoming you. |
